We embrace the UU value of the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.

In 2024 all UU congregations were invited to the challenge of showing up and fighting for the democratic process while deepening and creating new relationships within our members and the community at large. UUMAN was one of 55 congregations nationwide to receive the nomination in 2024, and among 8 in the Southern Region.

We are proud of our achievements! Here is a sample of some of the initiatives we planned and executed during this process:

  • Social Justice and DRE held a mock election with all youth to promote;
  • Worked with community partners such us SPLC and GLAHR on voting registration;
  • Took to the streets to mobilize voters with for National Voter Registration Day with John Lewis Action group;
  • As a congregation we sent 400 Common Ground postcards with over 30% member participation:
  • 600 letters were mailed with Vote Forward with more than 40% congregation participation.;
  • Created Rosie's chart to stimulate congregation participation in the election process and incent accountability;
  • UUtheVote phone banking with Texas initiative. Attended pro-immigration march with GLAHR and UUtheVote and Good Trouble in July;
  • Organized and hosted a pro-democracy Town Hall meeting at UUMAN with SPLC at our church with more than 30% congregation participation.
  • Participated on phone banking efforts with GLAHR;
  • And because we also need joy and fun, hosted a Celebration of Democracy Party for our achievements.

More than ever we need to be alert, defend democracy and our liberties. Let’s make sure we all get in “good trouble”.
