UUMAN Children & Youth Programs

Vision:

Our mission is to be together in ways that affirm our UU Principles. The different programs and activities that we create in our shared ministry give us many choices for growing and exploring with each other.

Our goal is to build a ministry that focuses on connecting deeply with others. We will help each other learn and grow and celebrate each person’s unique personality and gifts. We will take care of one another and our whole community.

Nursery Care (Ages 0-4)

Our nursery provides a safe and nurturing environment for our youngest attendees. Available during the first hour of service, the nursery welcomes children ages 0-4. Parents can drop off their little ones before the service begins, allowing them to participate fully in worship while knowing their children are well cared for.

Dual Path Service

All children and youth begin in the service, participating in the welcome, chalice lighting, announcements, a song, and the Time for All Ages (TFAA). After TFAA, they transition to Kids Community, creating a multi-generational worship experience.

Kids Community (Ages 4 & Up)

Kids Community is a vibrant program designed to foster exploration, friendship, and spiritual growth. Held in the Fellowship Hall, it provides a variety of engaging activities such as storytelling, cooperative games, arts and crafts, nature-based learning, and social justice projects. Led by dedicated volunteers, this program helps children develop a sense of belonging within the community.

Religious Exploration (2nd Hour)

Religious Exploration (RE) takes place after the service in Discovery Cottage, with check-in from 11:05-11:15 AM. This program offers age-appropriate curriculum and activities for different grade levels:

  • PreK-1st: Guided free play

  • 2nd-5th: Engaging curriculum-based activities

  • Junior Youth (Middle School): Thoughtful curriculum-based discussions and activities

  • Senior Youth (High School): Meaningful discussions and explorations of faith

  • Multigenerational Activities: Occasionally, all age groups come together for a shared experience during RE hour.

Coming of Age (Rising 9th Grade)

COA is a transformative, year-long program that culminates in a Rites of Passage service. Through mentorship, spiritual exploration, and community service, participants deepen their understanding of Unitarian Universalism and develop their personal beliefs in a supportive environment.

Our Whole Lives (OWL) - Comprehensive Sexuality Education

OWL is a nationally recognized, age-appropriate program that provides comprehensive sexuality education. Led by trained and certified OWL instructors, this program promotes healthy relationships, consent, identity exploration, and values-based decision-making. OWL is offered to different age groups throughout the year.

Summer Programming (June & July)

During the summer months, children and youth continue to have opportunities for exploration and growth through our summer programming. Held in Fellowship Hall during the first hour of service, this program offers hands-on activities centered around creativity, nature, and community. Activities include outdoor exploration, arts and crafts, STEM experiments, and social justice projects.
